Know vs Do

Do Better

Earlier today I found myself at a four way stop sign. For those of you who haven’t started driving yet, this means that every car must stop before they turn or go straight at the stop sign.

I stopped, and then continued to turn left as I watched the truck to my left do a rolling stop (slowing down instead of stopping like he was supposed to), almost hitting me.

This very informative gentleman yelled out of his widow at me, “it’s a stop sign!!”, to which I replied with as much energy as he was so gracious to greet me with, “I know, you didn’t stop!”

Now, although this older gentleman knew there was a stop sign, and apparently knew what should be done at the stop sign, he himself did not do what the stop sign signaled him to.

His knowledge of what it means to stop, did not keep him from almost hitting me. It wasn’t until he actually stopped, that an accident was avoided.

Similarly, you knowing, but not doing doesn’t make any difference. It’s actually worse to know and not act, than it is to act and not know.

If you know better, do better. If you want to be successful, do what successful people do. If you want to get off the street, take action and do what’s necessary to get off the street. Who cares what everyone else is going to say or do. You can only control what you do. The only people who end up being a product of their environment are the ones who act like they don’t have any other choice.

Get the knowledge, then take action. Better yet, take action as you get the knowledge. That way you’ll have the knowledge and the experience to get you where you know you can go.
