Watch your focus

You get more of what you focus on. Positive focus begets positive results.

Similar to focusing on a road barrier while driving will eventually cause you to hit it, if all you think about is the negative, negativity will continue to surround you.

It’s easy to feel defeated, and complain, when dealing with uncomfortable or difficult circumstances. However, if your focus stays on how terrible the situation is, it’ll be harder to find a solution or create a plan to change what’s going on. You’ll be reinforcing your perception of reality to the point that you’re stuck in that situation, even though you don’t want to be.

Can’t stand your job? Don’t gossip about your co-workers, or tell everyone how much you can’t stand your boss. Focus on the fact that you’re making money, then look for a job you might enjoy more, or get the skills you need to do something better.

Someone you were friendly with talk bad about you behind your back? Don’t talk bad about them over social media or try to start a fight. Be grateful that they showed you their true character and don’t fool with them anymore. Then be more selective of whom you associate with.

It’s healthy to share your feelings of frustration or displeasure with select individuals. Just don’t let that be all you do. Complaining about things aren’t going to change them. Complain, but then shift your focus and do something about it. Otherwise, stop complaining.

There is always something positive you can focus on. It might be difficult to find in some situations. It might be the positive you focus on isn’t found in the situation, but in yourself.

Always remember that you owe it to yourself to redirect your focus so that you can get through, passed, under, or over what you’re dealing with.
